It was built in 1819 with a loan of £500 from the Board of First Fruits, which was a Church of Ireland body established in 1711 to improve churches in Ireland.
There was quite a few gravestones that were damaged and opened slightly, like the one in the bottom right hand corner.
One of the tombs had a small gap that was just big enough to take some photos of the inside. The coffins looked like they were made of lead.
I suppose Yvette Fielding (Most Haunted) would say these were orbs, but i think it's dust on the lens. If anyone else knows what they are please do let me know.
I'll leave you with one of our cats Taz, who reminds me of a witches cat and who also knows she's not allowed on the table, so she's just tip-toeing around the edge. Sneaky eh!
Happy Halloween and thanks for visiting.
Spooky indeed but beautiful at the same time ! XXXX
ReplyDeleteHi Jackie, thanks for dropping by. xx
ReplyDeleteThat is a seriously scary post, Deb!
ReplyDeleteYou should send that orbs photo in to a spooky magazine. It's made my neck go all tingly.
Taz is beautiful - I love black cats :-) x
That's an idea. I'll have a look at the paranormal ones next time i'm in town.
DeleteWe do love our black cats don't we. :-) xx
Very Gothic and interesting.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave.
DeleteHello Debs! Interesting subject though rather grave (pun intended).
ReplyDeleteYou are quite right those spheres are indeed orbs. Some people think that they are spirit energy and others that they are dust particles - I find them interesting because you can actually detect them using a EMF detector similar to what an electrician uses to determine wether a cable is live or not.
Hallowe'en is an odd time in our house because my wife thinks everyone is dressing up to celebrate her birthday :)
My BH said they were orbs but i thought it was just his over active imagination, though as he pointed out that if it was dust the other photo would be the same.
DeleteHappy birthday to your wife. My BH's was today. :-)
A good choice for your halloween blog - love Taz - what gorgeous green eyes - I think your pictures are really good - in this blog and previous blogs- We have been to Ireland two times and really enjoyed it
ReplyDeleteThank you Jane. Whereabouts in Ireland did you go?
ReplyDeleteIt is a while ago - the first time was a long weekend in Dublin - and the second time was a visit again to Dublin - visiting Avoca and the Wicklow mountains - both enjoyable trips
DeleteThe Wicklow mountains are lovely. Dublin is the one place we haven't visited, we keep meaning to but never seem to get up there. I expect we will one day. :-)
DeleteOlá amiga, vim retribuir sua carinhosa visita ao meu cantinho.
ReplyDeleteFiquei feliz por seguir-me!!!
Obrigada, volte sempre e pegue o meu selinho de agradecimento!
Beijos Marie.
Hi Marie, thanks for visiting and commenting. :-)
DeleteThat's lovely Marie, thank you. :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely spooky post, you were very brave to peak into the tomb!
ReplyDeleteThanks Chickpea. Luckily it was really quiet and still - if there had been the slightest noise, i'd have been off like a rocket!
ReplyDeleteYou live in a beautiful place! Love the spooky shots and the orbs - I've never seen them with trails like that in photos - maybe they really were ghosts.... :-) I love your little witch's cat - she's very cute.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mandy. I haven't seen orbs like that either (not that i've seen many orbs). I think i'll just keep an open mind. :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat photos - especially the canny cat. Reminds me of my brother's cat.
ReplyDeleteHi Gillian, thanks and thanks for following and dropping by. :-)
DeleteI've often had orbs but never with trails like that - they are certainly interesting. But they shouldn't detract from me commenting how good your other photos are and how enjoyable the post. Sadly, our black cat (Taz's twin) went off on a wander and never came back. I think she found a new home. She too used to stay on the edge of the table. I think it was so that when she got shouted at she could quickly jump down!
ReplyDeleteThanks Scriptor and welcome. I'm sorry to hear that your black cat wandered off. One of our cats left home too when we had a stray male hanging around. She was never happy when he was about and i think the last straw was when he stared coming in the cat flap and sleeping on her bed!
